ES 524 Major issues in the EU Select Term:
The aim of this course is to provide awareness of the political, social, economic and institutional processes in the EU and an opportunity to examine in detail the current major issues in the EU. Papers will be addressed by guest speakers from different EU member and candidate countries. This course consists of two sections: First section focuses on the European Union. Topics covered in the lectures include issues related with the history and theories of European integration, EU institutions, enlargement, European Monetary Union, foreign and defence policy, justice and home affairs, the policy process and output of the EU, and the future of the Union. The second section focuses on the impact of European integration on domestic policies of member and candidate countries and the resulting "Europeanisation" therein.
